Buttons Collaborates With Just Add Water For Deutsche Bank Ad

NEW YORK, January 23, 2006— Buttons New York has just completed the audio production for a new ad to debut during Super Bowl XL. The Deutsche Bank ad features a complex sound mix as a skier plows down pure terrain as exciting music punctuates his maneuvers and untouched snow slides around him. This ad marks the second collaboration between Buttons and the editorial house, Just Add Water.

Rich Macar, owner of Buttons and chief engineer, preformed the sound design. Macar mixed the spot in 5.1 surround mix using the ProTools HD Accel system. He utilized the Meyer HD 1 surround system, recognizing the increased presence of HD throughout this year’s Super Bowl broadcast. Additionally, Macar’s equipment included Bag End Sub Woofer, tuned by Bob Hodas, San Francisco.

The editorial house’s editor, Enrico Madonna, worked closely with Macar to realize their shared vision for the spot. The project was brought to Just Add Water by the Brouillard Agency, division of J. Walter Thompson. Creative Director, Jamie Ambler’s insight drove the spot. Dennis Prelatic performed the voice over. Nir Graf composed the music.
Macar delivered :60, :30 and :15 second versions of the spot, which was initially shot in 16 mag. The final layback was done at Dolby Studios NY to Panasonic D5 HD Deck.

Rich Macar said, “Not only were we excited to team up with Just Add Water on a sports-related spot but the unique challenges that accompany a high-profile ad like this one are always thrilling to tackle. Considering the changing medium of television with the proliferation of HD during this year’s Super Bowl broadcast, it is incumbent on the audio post industry to raise the bar so that the television audience hears a product that sounds as beautiful as it looks.”

Late last year, Buttons worked with Just Add Water to deliver four television and two radio spots designed to target the Hispanic market on behalf of the NFL Youth Football League. The spot featured a young football enthusiast walking down his city street, as the sounds of the last game resonate in his mind. The challenge within the context of the sound design was punctuating the ambient sound design of a city block with the sounds of a football game going on inside the child’s head. It included additional dramatic sounds to enhance the childlike excitement of the game.
